The authors examined the effectiveness of a group career counseling model (Pyle, 2007 ) on college students’ career decision‐making abilities. They used a Solomon 4‐group design and found that students who participated in the career counseling groups had significantly greater increases in career decision‐making abilities than those who did not participate in the groups. Implications for counseling and future research are discussed. 相似文献

Modelling and analysis of a basilica under earthquake loading 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper a basilica-type church is analysed in order to assess its structural behaviour and seismic vulnerability. For this purpose, an effective two-step procedure has been used, consisting of: (a) 3D static and dynamic linear analyses of the structural complex, and (b) 2D nonlinear push-over analysis of the single macro-elements. The results obtained through push-over analyses have been compared to the collapse loads derived from limit analysis, proving the ability of finite element (F.E.) nonlinear model to provide reliable simulation of the actual response of masonry elements. Then, the strength demand on each single structural macro-elements, resulting from the 3D linear analyses, has been compared to the macro-element ultimate strength capacity. The comparison demand vs. capacity has been carried out for all transversal and longitudinal macro-elements of the church, allowing a direct, though approximate, assessment of the seismic safety level of the church. The comparison demand vs. capacity confirms the susceptibility of this type of buildings to extensive damage and possibly to collapse, as frequently observed. The insertion of rigid diaphragms, which represents a widely used retrofit technique, has also been investigated; such intervention triggers concentration of strength demand in the stiffest macro-elements, so that the seismic capacity of the building is not necessarily increased. 相似文献

The evolution of graduate education in electrical engineering began in the early 1890' s and progressed at a rapid pace in the 1920' s, particularly in metropolitan areas conscious of community needs. In these areas, evening programs held the spotlight because of the ever-demanding need to provide graduate engineers with advanced knowledge. Such cooperation between community interests and colleges has resulted in a wide variety of patterns of part-time study on campus and, more recently, off campus. The later development is viewed with criticism in several educational circles although off-campus programs are filling tremendous requirements arising from industrial concentrations not within easy reach of a university or college. The evolution seems to indicate that off campus programs are not a passing fancy and that such requirements are very likely to be best satisfied in the long run by the establishment of graduate centers with a faculty in residence. As an example, the Polytechnic Graduate Center on Long Island is described. (The Center, actually located in Farmingdale, N. Y., began its operation on September 25, 1961, with a graduate student body of nearly 700 in day and evening programs involving advanced courses in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrophysics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Industrial Management. Close to 150 part-time day students are attending on a released-time basis, in addition to 45 full-time students in residence.) 相似文献

Children can be encouraged to demonstrate academic learning that they have mastered. Demonstrating academic learning to adults can be similar to auditioning for a drama or an artistic recital. Teachers and professional caregivers are accustomed to such auditions. Typically, it is the parents who initiate the audition: “My child can count to 10. Bonnie, count to 10 for this person.” Sometimes the auditioning child will ignore the parent: “Bonnie, count to 10 for this nice man.” Bonnie continues to disregard her parent. “Bonnie, count to 10. You know how to do it. One, two, three, ... What comes after three?” Bonnie still does not respond. “Honey, say your numbers. One, two, thr... What comes after two?” 相似文献

Early childhood special education pictorial literacy activities for young children with disabilities
Summary Alternative literacy activities can be adapted to complement the speech and language programs that have been developed to
assist learners with disabilities. Pictorially based alternative literacy programs may involve rebus symbols, augmentative
and alternative communication devices, or picture reading. Because these programs do not assume extensive language development,
they can be appropriate for children with severe learning problems as a foundation or replacement for typical early reading
activities. 相似文献

Supervision offers a distinct opportunity to experience the interconnection of counselor–client and counselor–supervisor interactions. One product of this network of interactions is parallel process, a phenomenon by which counselors unconsciously identify with their clients and subsequently present to their supervisors in a similar fashion ( Searles, 1955 ). Addressing parallel process has the potential to be valuable in the advancement of counselor development, but few strategies exist in the literature for working with the phenomenon. The authors describe the use of motivational interviewing as one method for effectively addressing parallel process in supervision. 相似文献
