Global concern for knowledge about and competencies for entrepreneurship and small business is growing. When discussing university training for entrepreneurship an action-oriented approach is needed. Originating in an elaboration of Kolb's model of action learning, an ‘entrepreneurial action capability’ (EAC) test is constructed. The test is based on the ‘critical-incident’ technique and validated against other images of entrepreneurial characteristics. Swedish university students, including those on special programmes oriented towards innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as existing small-business owner-managers are analyzed with the help of the EAC and associated tests. Substantive conclusions indicate that owner-managers, business students and engineering students score differently on the EAC test. It is argued that these groups use their intuition and analogical reasoning differently. The lest findings are used to modify the original learning model. Methodological lessons are that any formal tests, however realistic with respect to contents, are alien to practitioners. Thus, comparisons across different learning contexts for entrepreneurship entail great difficulties.  相似文献

Abstract

In solo offshore sailing races like those of the Solitaire du Figaro, sleep must be obtained in multiple short bouts to maintain competitive performance and safety. Little is known about the amount of sleep restriction experienced at sea and the effects that fatigue from sleep loss have on sailors’ performance. Therefore, we assessed sleep in sailors of yachts in the Figaro 2 Beneteau class during races and compared response times on a serial simple reaction-time test before and after races. Twelve men (professional sailors) recorded their sleep and measured their response times during one of the three single-handed races of 150, 300 and 350 nautical miles (nominally 24–50 h in duration). Total estimated sleep duration at sea indicated considerable sleep insufficiency. Response times were slower after races than before. The results suggest that professional sailors incur severe sleep loss and demonstrate marked performance impairment when competing in one- to two-day solo sailing races. Competitive performance could be improved by actively managing sleep during solo offshore sailing races.  相似文献

During the 1990s, a typical theme of a conference on the role of the university was "the university of tomorrow". Now, however, tomorrow has arrived, and universities are undergoing very powerful stimuli to transform themselves. The principal driving forces are the development of knowledge societies and economies, the all-pervasiveness of the information technologies, globalization, and the debate on the public or private nature of higher education. This paper presents an historical overview of issues around the language of instruction and the curriculum of mother‐tongue education for the Swedish‐speaking minority in Finland during the half‐century after the establishment of the public school in 1866. In a linguistic‐ and culturally‐diverse society like that of Finland it has not been self‐evident that the question of language as a medium of instruction and as a school subject would be understood and shared in the same way by Finns and Swedes. This paper focuses on two collective themes, homogenization and differentiation. Homogenization stands for forces aiming at securing equal opportunities for education, regardless of vernacular languages and cultures. Differentiation refers to the possibility of accommodating the education to specific needs of the Swedish‐speaking population.  相似文献
