Although peer-based work is encouraged by theories in developmental psychology and although classroom interventions suggest
it is effective, there are grounds for recognising that young pupils find collaborative learning hard to sustain. Discontinuities
in collaborative skill during development have been suggested as one interpretation. Theory and research have neglected situational
continuities that the teacher may provide in management of formal and informal collaborations. This experimental study, with
the collaboration of the science faculty in one urban secondary college, investigated the effect of two role attribution strategies
on communication in peer groups of different gender composition in three parallel Year 8 science classes. The group were set
a problem that required them to design an experiment to compare the thermal insulating properties of two different materials.
This presents the data collected and key findings, and reviews the findings from previous parallel studies that have employed
the same research design in different school settings. The results confirm the effectiveness of social role attribution strategies
in teacher management of communication in peer-based work. 相似文献

Students' conceptions of how objects are seen directly, and in mirrors, were explored in an analysis of their written and
drawn responses to common visual phenomena depicted in cartoons with brief text. Students in Grades K-10 (n=214) completed
a questionnaire and some were interviewed. Evidence was sought to support an hypothesis for increasingly sophisticated responses
related to the concepts of sight, light, reflection and image. The developmental model used in this analysis was the updated
SOLO Taxonomy (Biggs & Collis, 1991; Collis & Biggs 1991). It appears from the results that different modes of functioning
can interfere to produce factually incorrect recollections of experience particularly in the age group 7 to 13 years approximately.
Also, this is associated with the common spurious conception that mirrors have a lateral inversion property. Explanations
involving light were extremely rare and its role related to the production of an image ‘in the mirror’ but not to the perception
of an image in the eyes.

This article reviews the challenges provided by a plural condition toward doing religious education in the Philippines. The problem of Philippine religious education hinges on the fact that the growing plural condition in the educational system remains until now “un-discussed” or integrated in many schools. Not much is heard about proposing a platform of dialogue within religious education. Dialogue is more often associated with inter-faith initiatives beyond the learning environment. If religious education should be an instrument in the formation of the right Christian attitudes among the young, dialogue must be an urgent Christian agenda in Philippine religious education. 相似文献

Biblical texts and ancient Near Eastern pictorial images and material culture are separated by thousands of years from people living in the 21st century. This not only represents a temporal divide, but also a significant ideological (or worldview) divide. Following a brief introduction to important principles of adult-educational theory, this article describes an experiment of using ancient Near Eastern images and material culture to connect modern, often secular, people to the world of the Bible. It suggests that these images represent helpful means to initiate a truly cross-cultural conversation, linking 21st-century people (outside of academia) to the concerns and issues of those living in the biblical world. 相似文献
