Torsades de pointes with prolonged QTc interval is a form of ventricular tachycardia. Many predisposing factors have been identified and hypocalcemia is among the rare ones. Our case illustrates that though rare, hypocalcemia might manifest as torsades de pointes with prolongation of QTc interval. Early diagnosis and management of dyselectrolytemia can prevent these patients from catastrophic torsades de pointes. 相似文献

The context of the study presented in this paper is a sixth-semester undergraduate course on “Relational database management system” that was held in session 2009–2010. The course is part of the bachelor’s degree curriculum of Computer Science and Engineering branch at Punjab Technical University, Punjab, India. It consists of a lecture course and a concurrent lab course. The common approach has been to divide the course into lectures, tutorials, and practicals. To conduct practical sessions, lab plan is prepared beforehand by the faculty. The course duration is 14–16 weeks. Here the lab course was conducted in a blended learning mode, starting with syllabus related tasks, then subject specific projects, and presenting team project results. Problem based learning (PBL) and Blogging have been introduced for practical sessions. This paper describes this novel approach in which problems are designed to cover the syllabus topics, and blogging is used to bridge the communication gap. A significant difference was seen between performance and attitude of the treatment group (PBL with blogging) and control group (only PBL) for Lab sessions. Additionally teamwork and communication skills were also significantly improved in the case of PBL with blogging class. 相似文献

Lipoprotein Lp(a) excess has been identified as a powerful predictor of premature atherosclerotic vascular diseases. To evaluate
this in a North-Indian population, 130 CAD patients and 130 controls were analyzed. The size of the apo(a) phenotypic isoforms
was inversely proportional to Lp(a) concentrations. The mean concentration of Lp(a) in the CAD patients was 42±34 mg/dl whereas
in the normal subjects it was much lower, 27±27 mg/dl. 157 subjects out of the total 260 subjects showed plasma levels of
>20mg/dl. The frequency of high Lp(a) levels was much higher in patients(73%) than controls (43%). These data suggest (1)
that there is heterogeneity of the Lp(a) polymorphism, (2) Higher Lp(a) levels were found in patients than in the controls,
(3) Patients showed 1.5 fold increase in Lp(a) levels as compared to the controls. We conclude that low molecular weight apo(a)
isoforms are significantly associated with increased risk of CAD in the North-Indian population. 相似文献

Several studies including a small case-control (hypertriglyceridemic/normotriglyceridemic individuals) study by us revealed
close association between rare S2 allele ofAPOC3 Sstl polymorphism and hypertriglyceridemia. With the understanding that Asian Indians are highly vulnerable to the adverse
effects of hypertriglyceridemia, we extended the investigation and studied the frequency distribution of this polymorphism
in 216 healthy volunteers from Northern plains of India. We found that more than 50% of the study population had one or two
S2 allele. This may suggest that a larger fraction of this population is genetically predisposed to hypertriglyceridemia. 相似文献

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of interrelated common clinical disorders. The role of resistin in insulin sensitivity and MetS is controversial till date. So, the aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship of plasma resistin levels with markers of the MetS in Indian subjects. In a case control study, total 528 subjects were selected for the study. 265 (194 male and 71 female) were cases (with MetS) and 263 (164 male and 99 female) were controls (without MetS). Required anthropometric measurements and calculations were carried out accordingly. All the Biochemical estimations were carried out according to standard protocol. Resistin level was measured by the standard protocol (By ELISA i.e. enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) as illustrated in the kit. Insulin level was also measured by the standard protocol as illustrated in the kit and insulin resistance was calculated by the standard procedures. Plasma resistin levels were significantly higher in cases compared with controls (male = 13.05 ± 4.31 vs. 7.04 ± 2.09 ng/ml; p ≤ 0.001 and female = 13.53 ± 4.14 vs. 7.42 ± 2.30 ng/ml; p ≤ 0.001). Plasma resistin levels were well correlated with waist circumference, glucose, triglycerides, waist/hip ratio, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, high density lipoprotein, total cholesterol, serum low density lipoprotein, serum very low density lipoprotein, insulin and insulin resistance. Plasma resistin levels were elevated in presence of the MetS and were associated with increased metabolic risk factors. 相似文献
