Aneesur Rahman made seminal contributions to computational physics, the forerunner of the widespread application today of computation in the study of physical, chemical and biological phenomena. This year marks the 50th anniversary of his paper in 1964, which heralded the use of the molecular dynamics method, an essential tool for research in materials and biological sciences today, which he is most known for. A biography of Rahman, along with a summary of his scientific contributions is described below. 相似文献

Abstract Higher education is a service that contributes to national development, integration and regional cohesion. Agricultural education in particular has been viewed in many developing countries as a significant contributor to sustainable development and poverty alleviation. In view of its public mandate, higher education in most countries is regulated by competent bodies. However, higher education is also a service recognized under the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) of the World Trade Organization (WTO). It is therefore subject to WTO's essential principles of promoting trade liberalization, market access and equitable treatment to all participants. But very little is known about the consequences of free trade in educational services. Also it is difficult to define which educational services are strictly commercial and which are public services. As a result, application of GATS can lead to disputes, unless the definitions are clear and international standards are in place, as in the case of other WTO agreements such as TRIPS, SPS and TBT. The present paper assesses the implications of application of the provisions of GATS to higher education in general and agricultural education in particular, with respect to Indian regulatory mechanisms for agricultural education. International scenarios of application of GATS in higher education and relevant policy issues for India as perceived by the faculty members of agricultural universities are discussed. The purpose is to initiate a fruitful debate at various national forums that can inform national policy and take advantage of the opportunities provided under GATS, while ensuring that national interests are kept in perspective. 相似文献

Determination of blood glucose levels is very important to know the physiological condition of the human beings as the hormonal
imbalance may cause abnormalities in glucose metabolism. The traditional methods of glucose estimation by colorimetric and
titrimetric methods were involved with huge expenditure and time. The modified colorimetric microwell reader method proposed
in the present study was performed with small quantities of sample and reagents with the same linearity that was observed
in the normal colorimetric analysis. The modified method not only reduces the cost of the test to almost one third of the
normal colorimetric method but also provide an opportunity to screen the large number of samples in a short duration of time. 相似文献

In the present research, a series of 5,6-bis aryl 1,2,4-triazines 5a~5f were synthesized by condensation of various benzils 4a~4f with aminoguanidine bicarbonate and were screened in vivo, for their anticonvulsant and neurotoxicity studies. Compounds 5a, 5b and 5d were found to be potent molecules of this series, when compared with the reference drugs phenytoin sodium, diazepam and lamotrigine. The structures of these compounds were established by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectroscopic data. 相似文献

Phase transitions, like the boiling of water upon increasing temperature, are a part of everyday experience and are yet, upon closer inspection, unusual phenomena, and reveal a host of fascinating features. Comprehending key aspects of phase transitions has lead to the uncovering of new ways of describing matter composed of large numbers of interacting elements, which form a dominant way of analysis in contemporary statistical mechanics and much else. An introductory discussion is presented here of the concepts of scaling, universality and renormalization, which forms the foundation of the study of continuous phase transitions, such as the spontaneous magnetization of ferromagnetic substances. 相似文献

The effect of the antitubercular drugs isoniazid (10 μg/ml), ethambutol (10 μg/ml), rifampicin (0.5 μg/ml) and streptomycin
(1 μg/ml) on the calmodulin like protein (CAMLP) content ofMycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv andM. tuberculosis H37Ra was investigated. The drugs were added to actively growing cells at their mid log phase of growth (14 days) and after 12
more hours of incubation, CAMLP was estimated. In both the mycobacteria, all the four antitubercular drugs CAMLP. 相似文献
