The aim of the present study is to elicit students’ understanding of the particulate nature of matter via a cross-age study
ranging from secondary to tertiary educational levels. A questionnaire with five-item open-ended questions was administered
to 166 students from the secondary to tertiary levels of education. In light of the findings, it can be deduced that the number
of students’ responses categorized under the “sound understanding” category for each item increased with educational level,
except for U1. Also, it can be concluded that students’ specific misconceptions decreased steadily from SHS1 to SHS3, except
for item 4, but there is surprisingly a clear increase at U1. 相似文献

There have been ongoing criticisms of the field of educational leadership and management with respect to over-reliance on research from ‘Western’ contexts. However, evidence on the extent to which voices alternative to the dominant ‘Western’ discourse are represented in the international English-medium discourse of educational leadership and management is thin. Using a three-phase sequential mixed-methods approach, this paper explores knowledge production in the field by analysing the prevalence and impact of empirical articles published in four English-medium international journals. Additionally, the membership of editorial boards and editors is analysed to geographically locate key decision makers. Findings demonstrate that an exceptionally small set of core inner-circle Anglophone and non-inner-circle Anglophone settings enjoys disproportionate influence in the field. There is need for a knowledge base enriched with leadership and management practices from different sociocultural contexts and system structures with a multiplicity of voices to portray a more nuanced and balanced picture of leadership and management practices. 相似文献

What makes some human faces more attractive than others is an interesting phenomenon which is difficult to explain based on few facial features. Research indicated that many facial parameters contribute to generation of a “harmonious face” which is found appealing by most observers. There are different theories developed on which and how these parameters blend in to make a harmonious face. Determination of these parameters and the underlying mechanism is important since achieving a harmonious face is the primary goal in dental and aesthetic surgical procedures. This article presents a model developed for computer-aided assessment of facial harmony, which assesses the facial harmony of male patients and generates a score that reflect the level of harmony. The computer-aided tool presented in this paper uses “theory of averages” as a mechanism for measurement of facial harmony which is frequently used by aesthetic surgeons and orthodontists for assessment of facial proportions of the patient. The output of the developed model is an index which reflects the degree of harmony of facial features and how well they blend into each other. 相似文献

Comparative performance analysis of artificial bee colony algorithm for automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this study, Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm is applied to the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) system for obtaining optimal control. The tuning performance of this algorithm and its contribution to the robustness of the control system are also extensively and comparatively investigated. In the performance analysis, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm are used for the purpose of comparison. These analyses are realized by benefiting from different analysis methods such as transient response analysis, root locus analysis, bode analysis and statistically Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis. Afterwards, the robustness analysis is applied to the AVR system, which is tuned by ABC algorithm in order to determine its response to changes in the system parameters. At the end of the study, it is shown that the ABC algorithm is successfully applied to the AVR system for improving the performance of the controller and shows a better tuning capability than the other similar population based optimization algorithms for this control application. 相似文献

This study investigated the effectiveness of conceptual change texts in remediating high school students’ alternative conceptions
concerning chemical equilibrium. A quasi-experimental design was used in this study. The subjects for this study consisted
of a total 78 tenth-grade students, 38 of them in the experimental group and 40 of them in the control group. A questionnaire,
the Alternative Conceptions about Chemical Equilibrium Test (ACCET), was developed and administered to students as a pretest
and posttest. While the experimental group received a conceptual change text instruction, the control group received a traditional
style instruction. The results of the study indicated that the students in the experimental group showed significantly greater
levels of achievement than the students in the control group. Moreover, in both groups the percentages of students’ alternative
conceptions decreased in the however the experimental group did better than the control group. 相似文献

Many e-learning service systems fail. This is particularly true for those sponsored by joint industry/university consortia where substantial economic investments are required up-front. This article provides an industry/university consortia reference model validated through experiences with the 8-year-old Teradata University Network. The reference model addresses basic and advanced sustainability capabilities that integrate partner, application, faculty, student, and e-learning service system issues. Our validation of the reference model includes a mapping to the literature regarding recent advances in e-learning service system infrastructures and supported capabilities. With this aim, a detailed literature review of chemical bonding was carried out and the collected data was presented from past to day historically. The research reported here consists of the introduction of an intervention based on a series of laboratory activities combined
with concept mapping. The purpose of this intervention was to enhance student understanding of acid-base chemistry for tenth
grade students’ from two classes in a Turkish high school. An additional aim was to enhance student attitude toward chemistry.
In the research design, two cohorts of students were compared; those from the intervention group (N = 31) and a second group
(N = 28) who were taught in a more traditional manner. Student understanding of acid-base chemistry was evaluated with a pretest/posttest
research design using a purpose-designed instrument, the Concept Achievement Test (CAT) consisting of 25 items, 15 multiple choice and ten multiple choice with explanation. Alternative conceptions identified
in the pretest were incorporated into the intervention, which thereby sought to move students toward views more in accord
with scientific views for the concepts. Statistical tests indicate the instrument is reliable (with an alpha reliability of
0.81) and the analysis of the findings revealed statistically significant differences between the intervention and traditional
groups with respect to conceptual understanding. Examination of student explanations and analyses of semi-structured interviews
conducted with selected students suggest that the main influence was the laboratory activities. Analysis of the findings in
the context of relevant literature that concept mapping in conjunction with laboratory activities is more enjoyable, helps
student link concepts, and reduces their alternative conceptions. 相似文献
