Effect of irbesartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, was studied in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic nephropathy.
Polyuria, proteinuria, blood urea, creatinine clearance, and urinary electrolytes were determined to assess kidney damage.
There was a significant increase in urine volume, urinary protein and blood urea in STZ induced diabetic rats. On the other
hand, irbesartan treatment resulted in a significant reduction in urinary protein and blood urea in these rats. Irbesartan
treatment also improved creatinine clearance and exhibited a natriuretic effect in these animals. Results suggest that irbesartan
treatment ameliorate STZ induced diabetic nephropathic changes, in rats. 相似文献

How gender operates is a key factor in the ways in which physical education is organized, taught and experienced by students and teachers. This essay highlights the gendered contours of the history of physical education development in Hong Kong, its Chinese heritage and its colonial foundations – the persistent influence of British approaches to physical education teacher education and the promotion of sport. The paper is a collaborative work between Chinese-born and Western scholars. It examines the relative influences of Chinese attitudes towards gender roles and the active, sporting body and the continued impact of Western approaches to physical education and sport in a post-colonial society. 相似文献

In the present study, the cause of suspected false-positive (anomalous) values for CK-MB activity, in Indian patients investigated
for ACS. Total serum CK and CK-MB activity, serum Troponin I were measured and CK-MB as a percentage of the total CK activity
(%CK-MB) calculated. CK-MB was also estimated using densitometry and CK-MB mass assay. Anomalous specimens were tested for
the presence of CK isoenzymes. In 22 healthy subjects, 11 male and female, the %CK-MB ranged from 3.6 to 30.2. In 11 male
patients, with proven ACS, the %CK-MB was from 4.0 to 17.5. The cut off for anomalous CK-MB activity values was set as >33.0%.
In 35 patients with anomalies, total CK values ranged from 39 to 231 U/L, CK-MB from 30 to 161 U/L. Investigation of CK isoenzymes,
showed 10 patients had a CK-BB band, 14 an intermediate band between CK-MM and CK-MB (macro-CK type 1), 7 had a cathodal band
(macro-CK type 2), and 3 had a band intermediate between CK-MB and CK-BB. This later band does not seem to have been previously
reported. Against the CK-MB mass assay, the activity assay showed no correlation, in 43 patients (19 M, 24 F), Pearson coefficient
(R2) was 0.006. The CK-MB immunoinhibition assay is better described as measuring “non-CK-MM activity.” A %CK-MB activity >6%
as a marker of ACS is not valid in our patient population. Laboratories should not use only CK-MB activity as a biochemical
marker of ACS. 相似文献

Print academic journals are dead. As we watch large metropolitan newspapers fail (as are many small town newspapers), the
same economic forces are driving online scholarly publishing. This phenomenon is more than print journals going online. The
options available with new low-cost online publishing software and the rise in the ability to use ratings from user generated
content suggest more near-term changes are likely. Many of the outcomes are unsettled: the economics of online publishing;
the standards for peer review, rank, and tenure; and the very nature of scholarly publishing itself. What is certain, however,
is that the economics of online academic publishing—modeled via Anderson’s Long Tail Theory—will make it possible to provide
greater access, more collaboration, and, ultimately, improved research and researchers. Universities acting as publishing
centers with their e-reserves will be expected to change their faculty evaluations, providing greater academic rewards for those who act as editors,
reviewers, and proofreaders within this new born-online and only-online world. 相似文献
