The present study evaluated the plausible role of circulating biomarkers in immune pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis considered
a priority in clinical hepatology. Total viral load of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients
was quantified and correlation studies were performed with circulating levels of Th1/Th2 cytokines; C reactive protein and
circulating nucleosomes; glutathione reductase (GR) and superoxide dismutase. To our knowledge, the study is first among its
kind that validates strong positive correlation of viral load with IL-4, IL-6, GR in HBV and IL-6, IL-10, GR in HCV infections.
Although, multi-centric studies including large cohorts are required for translating our findings to clinical practice, however,
role of these biomarkers with potential diagnostic or prognostic significance might be helpful in clinical assessment of high-risk
individuals, thereby, designing interventional strategies, towards development of personalized medicare. The results of our
study also offer valuable insights of immune signaling mediators engaged in development of hepatocellular carcinoma. 相似文献

Depletion of the Earth’s ozone layer is one of the major environmental concerns for the new millennium having serious implications on human health, agriculture and climate. In the past decades, research by the international scientific community has been directed towards understanding the impact of human interference on the Earth’s atmosphere. The importance of ozone radiation absorption in the atmosphere and the general kinetics of the stratospheric ozone depletion mechanisms have motivated many theoretical and experimental studies on various chemical species. The distribution of ozone and other trace gases in the atmosphere is governed by the complex interaction of dynamical, chemical and radiative processes. This article concentrates on the basic concepts underlying the problems that may be faced by humankind due to reduction in the ozone layer in coming decades, and the ways in which the scientific community can contribute to predicting and remediating these effects through design of international treaties, regulations and amendments. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to create a substantial body of knowledge about the factors that influence the success of electronic journals, and to share this knowledge with that in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics in order to help facilitate change.Structured questionnaires for users (Academic Members, Post-Doctoral Fellows and Research Scholars) containing 40 different questions, many of which were further subdivided and framed in order to get information on various aspects of the usage of electronic journals. The purpose was to identify the basic minimum infrastructure necessary to provide users access to electronic journals and to facilitate easy response in all major A&A organizations in India.The increasing use of the electronic information-seeking environment has produced changes in the practice of science. Significant research has been conducted already on the impact of new information and communication technologies on scholarly work.This study was limited to astronomy and astrophysics libraries and information centres in India.This paper identifies the information needs of the users. Each community and discipline has its own specific legacy of journal structure, reading, publishing, and researching practices, and it will take trial and error to establish which kinds of e-journals are the most effective and useful.Case study. 相似文献

The present study has been conducted in 80 cases, out of which 28 were of strangulated and 52 of non-strangulated intestinal
obstruction. It has been observed that serum lactate dehydrogenase of more than 300 I. U./litre in first 24 hours to 72 hours

Gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (gamma-GT) levels were estimated in the sera of patients with breast cancer and compared with those of benign breast diseases and healthy controls. Serum gamma-GT levels were found to be significantly increased in patients with breast cancer compared to the controls as well as benign breast diseases. The rise however, was nearly same in all the patients irrespective of histopathology of cancer but was directly related to tumour mass. After mastectomy the levels remained higher upto 3 months. In patients with cancer the rise in serum gamma-GT was significantly higher as compared to those with benign breast diseases. Although gamma-GT is an index of liver diseases, its high level in breast carcinoma suggests the release of the membrane bound constituents from different tissues even in carcinoma. 相似文献

Mental Retardation is a condition where complex interactions of intrinsic and extrinsic factors hamper mental and sometimes
physical growth of the child during developmental period. This study was carried out to detect cause of Mental Retardation
in 2000 cases of developmental delay by a multidisciplinary team comprising of a Pediatrician, Cytogeneticist, Biochemist,
Psychologist and Speech and Occupational therapists. The causes for developmental delay are broadly divided into Genetic,
Environmental and Idiopathic (no specific cause found) factors. The complete diagnosis was possible in 1192(60%) cases. Genetic
factors were found in 477(23.8%) cases and environmental factors covered 692(34.6%) cases as a cause of retardation. The most
common genetic cause is chromosomal abnormalities which were found in 355 (17.75%) cases. Another major group comprising of
122 (6.1%) cases was that of the disorders which follow Mendelian inheritance. Autosomal recessive conditions, which covers
majority of metabolic disorders, are detected in 48(2.4%) cases. During this screening the most common inherited metabolic
condition detected is Mucopolysaccharidosis, a Lysosomal Storage Disorder followed by Amino acid abnormalities like Phenylketonuria,
Alkaptonuria and Tyrosinuria. 相似文献

This article describes a challenging problem concerning a neutron under gravity that was posed as a theoretical problem in
the 36th International Physics Olympiad held in Salamanca, Spain from July 3–12, 2005. The Olympiad marked India’s eighth
foray into this exciting event where seventyfive nations participated. Our performance was a success and all five student

Increased leukocyte apoptosis is intrinsically linked to disease patho-physiology, susceptibility to and severity of infections in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. A consistent defect in neutrophil function is considered central to this increased risk for infections. Although redox imbalance is considered a potential mediator of these associated complications, detailed molecular evidence in clinical samples remains largely undetected. The study consisted of three groups (n = 50 each) of Asian Indians: early diagnosed diabetic patients, cases with late-onset diabetic complications and age and gender-matched healthy controls. We evaluated mitochondrial oxidative stress, levels of nuclear DNA damage and apoptosis in peripheral blood neutrophils isolated from T2DM patients. We observed that in both early and late diabetic subjects, the HbA1c levels in neutrophils were altered considerably with respect to healthy controls. Increased oxidative stress observed in both early and late diabetics imply the disentanglement of fine equilibrium of mitochondria-nuclear cross talk which eventually effected the augmentation of downstream nuclear γH2AX activation and caspase-3 expression. It would be overly naïve to refute the fact that mitochondrial deregulation in neutrophils perturbs immunological balance in type 2 diabetic conditions. By virtue of our data, we posit that maneuvering mitochondrial function might offer a prospective and viable method to modulate neutrophil function in T2DM. Nevertheless, similar investigations from other ethnic groups in conjunction with experimental evidences would be a preeminent need. Obviously, our study might aid to comprehend this complex interplay between mitochondrial dysfunction and neutrophil homeostasis in T2DM. 相似文献
