In this paper, we demonstrate for the first time that insulative dielectrophoresis can induce size-dependent trajectories of DNA macromolecules. We experimentally use λ (48.5 kbp) and T4GT7 (165.6 kbp) DNA molecules flowing continuously around a sharp corner inside fluidic channels with a depth of 0.4 μm. Numerical simulation of the electrokinetic force distribution inside the channels is in qualitative agreement with our experimentally observed trajectories. We discuss a possible physical mechanism for the DNA polarization and dielectrophoresis inside confining channels, based on the observed dielectrophoresis responses due to different DNA sizes and various electric fields applied between the inlet and the outlet. The proposed physical mechanism indicates that further extensive investigations, both theoretically and experimentally, would be very useful to better elucidate the forces involved at DNA dielectrophoresis. When applied for size-based sorting of DNA molecules, our sorting method offers two major advantages compared to earlier attempts with insulative dielectrophoresis: Its continuous operation allows for high-throughput analysis, and it only requires electric field strengths as low as ∼10 V∕cm. 相似文献

Nanoparticle image velocimetry (nano-PIV), based on total internal reflection fluorescent microscopy, is very useful to investigate fluid flows within ∼100 nm from a surface; but so far it has only been applied to flow over smooth surfaces. Here we show that it can also be applied to flow over a topologically structured surface, provided that the surface structures can be carefully configured not to disrupt the evanescent-wave illumination. We apply nano-PIV to quantify the flow velocity distribution over a polydimethylsiloxane surface, with a periodic gratinglike structure (with 215 nm height and 2 μm period) fabricated using our customized multilevel lithography method. The measured tracer displacement data are in good agreement with the computed theoretical values. These results demonstrate new possibilities to study the interactions between fluid flow and topologically structured surfaces. 相似文献

We present our observation of meta-hydrophobicity, where geometrically patterned surfaces make hydrophilic microchannels exhibit hydrophobic-like behaviors. We analyze the wetting-induced energy decrease that results from the surface geometries and experimentally demonstrate how those geometries can modulate the dynamics of capillary-driven wetting and evaporation-driven drying of microfluidic systems. Our results also show that the modulated wetting dynamics can be employed to generate regulated patterns of microbubbles. 相似文献

A recent reform in Sweden's teacher education is presented. It is a liberal reform. The Government abstains from intervention in curriculum other than what are in the general regulations of Higher Education and in a Degree Ordinance for Teacher Education. In the Ordinance there are stated eight general goals and a basic framework for three areas of education, and how many credit points the students have to acquire in each of them. The reform is explained by the historical background of Sweden's teacher education development, from the special features of mentality formation of liberal minds in pluralistic societies and from the world-wide restructuring movement that implies less direct government intervention in public sector activities. 相似文献

利用顶空固相微萃取技术（SPME）吸附樟树叶的挥发性物质,采用GC／MS技术分析鉴定,用峰面积归一化法进行定量。从樟树叶中鉴定出38种化学物质,占挥发性物质总量的98．53％。樟树叶的主要挥发性物质有石竹烯,（Z,Z,Z）-1,5,9,9-四甲基-1,4,7环-十一碳三烯,己酸叶醇酯,S-（Z）-3,7,11-三甲基-1,6,10-十二烷三烯-3-醇,3,7-二氢-3-甲基1H-嘌呤-2,6-二酮等。 相似文献
