A new results concerning the definitions of disturbance zeros via the concept of minimal order system inverses is presented in this paper. These definitions are then used to develop a new computation algorithm for locating the positions of the ‘disturbance blocking zeros’ in linear multivariable systems. Assignment of disturbance blocking zeros at desired locations in the complex plane plays an important role in rejection of all measurable or un-measurable disturbances, which may affect at the outputs in steady state. Counseling services in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have focused on counseling in the elementary and secondary schools.
To date, the idea of the private practitioner of mental health counseling has been virtually nonexistent. However, education
officials at the University of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been exploring the option of following the international
trends of preparing students for mental health counseling services, with special emphasis in marriage and family. A counselor
education degree would allow individuals to operate private practices to address various concerns that impact individuals
within the society at large. No instruments that measure perceptions of counseling from an international perspective were
found for the purposes of this study. Therefore, it was necessary for the authors to devise and test a new tool. Surveys were
completed by a sample of 141 undergraduate students regarding their perceptions of the importance of counseling in UAE society
and the role of the counselor in society and other general questions regarding perceptions of counseling. With this initial
effort, psychometric properties of the ‘Perceptions about Counseling Survey’ appeared promising. Results revealed that students
had a favorable view toward the role of the counselor in UAE society. Results further revealed that students perceived the
counseling profession as favorable. Given that the participants were predominately female, the results were analyzed from
the social and cultural perspective of women in Arab society and the social psychological theory of ‘attitude’ is considered
as a contextual backdrop. 相似文献

This study reports how students who had attended alternative elementary schools performed when they moved on to secondary schools and beyond. Almost no research has been conducted on the longitudinal effects of alternative elementary education on students. Alternative education intervention was found to positively affect student achievement as measured by GPA and standardized test scores, and, student completion of a formal education program. Parent investment opportunity appears to be the common denominator among the three alternative schools that report the greatest student successes over time. Further research is needed to confirm preliminary findings that link parent involvement to students' continued success, and to explore the alternative school as a means to stimulating parent involvement. 相似文献

Background and purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the comparative effects of a prediction/discussion-based learning cycle (HPD-LC), conceptual change text (CCT) and traditional instruction on 10th grade students’ understanding of genetics concepts. Sample: Participants were 112 10th basic grade male students in three classes of the same school located in an urban area. The three classes taught by the same biology teacher were randomly assigned as a prediction/discussion-based learning cycle class (n?=?39), conceptual change text class (n?=?37) and traditional class (n?=?36). Design and method: A quasi-experimental research design of pre-test–post-test non-equivalent control group was adopted. Participants completed the Genetics Concept Test as pre-test–post-test, to examine the effects of instructional strategies on their genetics understanding. Pre-test scores and Test of Logical Thinking scores were used as covariates. Results: The analysis of covariance showed a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the favor of experimental groups after treatment. However, no statistically significant difference between the experimental groups (HPD-LC versus CCT instruction) was found. Conclusions: Overall, the findings of this study support the use of the prediction/discussion-based learning cycle and conceptual change text in both research and teaching. The findings may be useful for improving classroom practices in teaching science concepts and for the development of suitable materials promoting students’ understanding of science. 相似文献
