Within the higher education context, capstone units can be viewed as a significant means of assuring intended learning outcomes for programmes. They provide students with the opportunity to consolidate and apply prior and new disciplinary learning, as well as employability skills and graduate attributes. This paper describes the first stage of an initiative in a regional, Australian university to develop a capstone quality review framework that can be applied across disciplines. A deductive, thematic analysis of relevant literature, guides and institutional strategic documents using a constant comparison method was used to develop a collectively agreed upon set of capstone quality domains and related criteria. These would enable reviewers to assess whether capstone curricula were fit-for-purpose. Capstone domains and criteria were validated and revised using a multi-stage, moderated review of 10 capstone units. This validation process affirmed that to avoid issues with reviewer inter-rater reliability, future use of our framework should emphasise calibrating reviewer interpretation to ensure greater levels of shared understanding of underlying concepts. It further suggested the desirability of incorporating aspects of teacher self-assessment, teacher feedback and student results. Provided these findings are accounted for, we conclude that the proposed capstone review domains and criteria could be used for quality review and enhancement, or capstone benchmarking processes, regardless of discipline area.  相似文献

In this paper, the concept of proportionate adaptation is extended to the normalized subband adaptive filter (NSAF), and seven proportionate normalized subband adaptive filter algorithms are established. The proposed algorithms are proportionate normalized subband adaptive filter (PNSAF), μ‐law PNSAF (MPNSAF), improved PNSAF (IPNSAF), the improved IPNSAF (IIPNSAF), the set-membership IPNSAF (SM-IPNSAF), the selective partial update IPNSAF (SPU-IPNSAF), and SM-SPU-IPNSAF which are suitable for sparse system identification in network echo cancellation. When the impulse response of the echo path is sparse, the PNSAF has initial faster convergence than NSAF but slows down dramatically after initial convergence. The MPNSAF algorithm has fast convergence speed during the whole adaptation. The IPNSAF algorithm is suitable for both sparse and dispersive impulse responses. The SM-IPNSAF exhibits good performance with significant reduction in the overall computational complexity compared with the ordinary IPNSAF. In SPU-IPNSAF, the filter coefficients are partially updated rather than the entire filter at every adaptation. In SM-SPU-IPNSAF algorithm, the concepts of SM and SPU are combined which leads to a reduction in computational complexity. The simulation results show good performance of the proposed algorithms.  相似文献

Recent changes in the English tuition fee policies have spurred a debate on the impacts on student choices for higher education. Expectations range from a sharp decrease in participation in higher education to relatively little change in student demand. We surveyed 1549 year 12 sixth-form students from four institutions spread geographically across England. We have broadened the approach to the study of student choice by not only considering the impact of going to higher education or not, but have included in our choice scenarios the consideration of looking for cheaper higher education alternatives and of looking for higher education abroad. This brings our study from a focus on widening participation and access into the realm of the dynamics of increasing choice in a globalised world. The data suggest that financial issues are key influencers. We conclude that the English higher education system may be confronted with significant changes in student choice patterns, given the study’s finding that students show high levels of anxiety and consequently consider a much broader range of study options: within or outside higher education; in publicly funded or for-profit institutions; and in the UK or elsewhere.  相似文献
