This empirical research analyses an understudied population, Turkish immigrant youths' educational experiences of inclusion/exclusion in Vancouver. My information was gathered from in-depth interviews and participant observation with the first- and second-generation, Muslim and non-religious female and male Turkish immigrant youth from working and middle-class families. The findings of this study indicate that teachers' racism, linguicism and general Islamophobia are the factors of discrimination against Turkish immigrant youth in the education market. The findings suggest that cultural background, immigration status, class and religious affiliation are significant elements in students' relations to the school culture and their educational experiences of inclusion/exclusion in Canadian schools. 相似文献

The number of Turkish citizens entering the U.S. for their studies is growing more rapidly than almost any other group. The
purpose of the current study was to investigate how acculturation factors affect psychological adaptation of Turkish students
in the U.S. One hundred and twenty-four Turkish students participated in the study. Regression analyses revealed that social
support and self-esteem were predictors of psychological adjustment. Implications suggest that Turkish students, as with other
international students as previous research has suggested, should have a strong network of both co-national students and other

A recent “third wave” of neural network (NN) approaches now delivers state-of-the-art performance in many machine learning tasks, spanning speech recognition, computer vision, and natural language processing. Because these modern NNs often comprise multiple interconnected layers, work in this area is often referred to as deep learning. Recent years have witnessed an explosive growth of research into NN-based approaches to information retrieval (IR). A significant body of work has now been created. In this paper, we survey the current landscape of Neural IR research, paying special attention to the use of learned distributed representations of textual units. We highlight the successes of neural IR thus far, catalog obstacles to its wider adoption, and suggest potentially promising directions for future research. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aesthetic education on the development of aesthetic judgment of 6 year-old
children. The sample of the study comprised 77 children selected randomly from state run primary schools from various socioeconomic
levels in Ankara. The experiment group consisted of 22 children, the placebo group of 23 children and the control group of
32 children. The experiment group received an aesthetic education program, the placebo group was offered a placebo education
and the control group did not take any education. The Taylor–Helmstadter Pair Comparison Scale of Aesthetic Judgment was used
to measure the aesthetic judgments of children. The findings of the study show that there is a significant difference in the
aesthetic judgments of male children in the experiment group who received aesthetic education (p < .05). Moreover, it found that the educational and socioeconomic levels of parents did not have any effects on the aesthetic

The purpose of this study was to develop a scale for measuring prospective science teachers’ awareness of waste recycling. The study was conducted with the participation of 382 prospective teachers attending a university located in northern Turkey. The five-point Likert type scale that was developed contained 82 items relating to prospective science teachers’ awareness of waste recycling. The factor analysis conducted showed that five items had factor loadings below 0.30, and five were cross loading items. Factor analysis was repeated after removing these items. A further 24 items were removed from the list at the end of the factor analysis, and the remaining 48 items were grouped under ten dimensions. The reliability coefficient for the factors extracted varied between 0.717 and 0.805, and the internal reliability coefficient for the whole scale was 0.905. 相似文献

The study examined how particular demographic and multicultural personality variables might predict university adjustment
of international students in Turkey. One hundred and twenty-one international students from five geographical regions, including
Middle Central Asia, the Balkans, the Middle East, the Kafkasia Region, and the Russian Federations, studying in a main university
in İzmir, Turkey, participated in the study. The Multicultural Personality Questionnaire (Van der Zee and Van Oudenhoven,
2000) and a demographic information questionnaire were used to collect data, which were examined in regard to responses to the
University Life Scale (Aladağ, Kağnıcı, Tuna and Tezer, 2003). According to the results, while demographic variables did not significantly predict the university adjustment of international
students, multicultural personality variables did. Social initiative, emotional stability, open-mindedness and cultural empathy
were found to be significant predictors of university adjustment. 相似文献
