Currently popular systems for classification of spelling words or errors emphasize the learning of phoneme-grapheme correspondences
and memorization of irregular words, but do not take into account the morphophonemic nature of the English language. This
study is based on the premise that knowledge of the morphological rules of derivational morphology is acquired developmentally
and is related to the spelling abilities of both normal and learning-disabled (LD) students. It addresses three issues: 1)
how the learning of derivational morphology and the spelling of derived words by LD students compares to that of normal students;
2) whether LD students learn derived forms rulefully; and 3) the extent to which LD and normal students use knowledge of relationships
between base and derived forms to spell derived words (e.g. “magic” and “magician”). The results showed that LD ninth graders’
knowledge of derivational morphology was equivalent to that of normal sixth graders, following similar patterns of mastery
of orthographic and phonological rules, but that their spelling of derived forms was equivalent to that of the fourth graders.
Thus, they know more about derivational morphology than they use in spelling. In addition, they were significantly more apt
to spell derived words as whole words, without regard for morphemic structure, than even the fourth graders. Nonetheless,
most of the LD spelling errors were phonetically acceptable, suggesting that their misspellings cannot be attributed primarily
to poor knowledge of phoneme-grapheme correspondences.

ABSTRACTThe research aimed to evaluate the effects of an intervention aimed at altering pressure towards the medial aspect of the foot relating to stability mechanisms associated with the golf swing. We hypothesised that by altering the position of the foot pressure, the lower body stabilisation would improve which in turn would enhance weight distribution and underpinning lower body joint kinematics. Eight professional golf association (PGA) golf coaches performed five golf swings, recorded using a nine-camera motion analysis system synchronised with two force platforms. Following verbal intervention, they performed further five swings. One participant returned following a one-year intervention programme and performed five additional golf swings to provide a longitudinal case study analysis. Golf performance was unchanged evidenced by the velocity and angle of the club at ball impact (BI), although the one-year intervention significantly changed the percentage of weight experienced at each foot in the final 9% of downswing, which provided an even weight distribution at BI. This is a highly relevant finding as it indicates that the foot centre of pressure was central to the base of support and in-line with the centre of mass (CoM), indicating significantly increased stability when the CoM is near maximal acceleration. 相似文献

Library instruction methods most frequently focus on teaching students searching skills to navigate the maze of library databases to locate appropriate research materials. The current theory of critical information literacy instruction calls on librarians to spend more of their time in the classroom focused on understanding the social, political, and cultural construction of knowledge. In this article, the author provides a case study of the information environment in the National Women's Health Network, a women's health interest group, to help librarians facilitate nuanced discussions with students on the applicability of interest group literature inside and outside of the university classroom. 相似文献

This study is an investigation of the impact of collaborative teaching by student‐teachers and classroom teachers on children’s enjoyment and learning of science. The paper describes findings from a project in which undergraduate science specialist student‐teachers were placed in primary schools where they ‘co‐taught’ investigative science and technology with primary teachers. Almost six months after the student placement, a survey of children’s attitudes to school science revealed that these children enjoyed science lessons more and showed fewer gender or age differences in their attitudes to science than children who had not been involved in the project. The authors discuss how this model of collaborative planning, teaching and evaluation can both enhance teacher education and improve children’s experience of science. 相似文献

Abstract This study employs the theory of “media logic” and the method of hermeneutical criticism to demonstrate some effects of a major social institution, television, on the “text” of experiencing spectator sports. The study finds that the medium of television makes spectator sports into an experience which incorporates narrative, intimacy, commodification, and rigid time segmentation. The conventions imposed by television on spectator sports are presented here as powerfully affecting the meanings which televised sports have for their audiences. 相似文献

Leisure–defined as a state of mind characterized by feelings of freedom, pleasure, and growth–is employed as a vehicle for examining changing women's roles in feminist fiction. Such fiction suggests that many women experience a dearth of leisure in the traditional roles of wife, homemaker, and mother. Women who assume these roles more often view their lives as dominated by antileisure, that is, by activity undertaken compulsively, as a means to an end, and from a perception of necessity. In the novels chosen for consideration, a pattern emerges. The sequence of getting married, making a home, and having children means an increasing abridgement of leisure for women, while this same sequence results in an increasing realization of leisure for men. The recurring theme in this literature is that women, like men, have compelling leisure needs which may take them beyond the bounds of homemaking and child-rearing. 相似文献
