Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) has emerged as the most applicable and important tumor marker for carcinoma prostate. In the
present study PSA was determined in serum of healthy subjects, patients of benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) and Carcinoma
Prostate (Ca−P) to evaluate its diagnostic efficiency in day to day management of prostate cancer patients and in differentiating
patients of early prostate cancer from those with BPH. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) revealed 2 ng/ml and
10 ng/ml cut off serum PSA level for BPH and untreated carcinoma prostate patients (Ca−P). An extremely significant increase
(P<0.0001) was observed in mean PSA concentration in BPH patients and adenocarcinoma prostate patients when compared to healthy
males. Clinical relevance of PSA was highlighted by a case study of cancer patient prior to any therapy till death. 相似文献

Variability in analytical performance of some analyte indicated the need of evaluation of quality plan of our laboratory. We tried to put the same degree of effort into our quality metrics as we put into the laboratory processes themselves. Application of six sigma methodologies improve the quality by focusing on the root causes of the problems in performance and analyzing by flowcharts, fishbone diagrams and other quality tools. Sigma metric was calculated for laboratory parameters for a period of 8 months during 2018–19. The analytes with poor sigma metric were free Thyroxine (FT3, FT4), Sodium, Calcium and Magnesium. Sigma metric of free Thyroxine (FT3, FT4), Sodium, Calcium and Magnesium were below 3. A road map for process improvement was designed with DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) model to solve the issue. Possible causes for low analytical performance of the particular analytes were depicted in Fishbone diagram. The Fishbone analysis identified the water quality issues with electrolyte analysis while high ambient temperature was culprit for poor assay performance of free Thyroxine. Sigma metric of the analytical performance was assessed once again after root cause analysis. Sigmametric showed marked improvement in control phase. Identification of problems led to reduction in non value added work leading to adequate resource utilization by addressing the priority issue. Therefore, DMAIC tool with Fish bone model analysis can be recommended as a well suited method for troubleshooting in poor performance of laboratory parameter. 相似文献

Now a days measurement of molecular forms of PSA has gained importance in clinical practice. Several studies have demonstrated
the production of PSA in female tissues, such as breast. The present piece of work has been undertaken with an objective to
estimate the relative proportion of the molecular forms of PSA in serum along with serum testosterone in benign and malignant
breast tumor cases and to analyze their association with the severity of the disease process 34 malignant and 26 benign breast
disease cases along with 33 healthy controls of same age group were enrolled in this study for evaluation. Serum testosterone
was measured by ELISA, whereas serum total PSA (TPSA) and free PSA (FPSA) were estimated by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay.
A significant rise of fasting plasma glucose along with prominent dyslipidemia was observed in breast tumor cases. Marked
rise in serum testosterone as well as TPSA and FPSA was documented in both benign and malignant breast tumor cases. Serum
testosterone revealed a significant positive association with both TPSA and FPSA pointing towards an etiological association
between them. However, surgical removal of tumor mass resulted in a marked decline of presurgical value of both TPSA and FPSA
with a non-significant fall in serum testosterone revealing tumor tissue as the source of FPSA and TPSA. Thus, estimation
of PSA provides prognostic information that may assist in future treatment. 相似文献

In this study, a simple roller burnishing tool was made to operate burnishing processes on A356/5%SIC metal matrix composite fabricated by electromagnetic stir casting under different parameters. The effects of burnishing speed, burnishing force and number of burnishing passes on the surface roughness and tribological properties were measured. Scanning electron microscopy （SEM） graphs of the machined surface with PCD （insert-10） tool and roller burnished surface with tungsten carbide （WC） roller were taken into consider- ation to observe the surface finish of metal matrix composites. The mechanical properties （tensile strength, hardness, duc- tility） of A356/5%SIC metal matrix composites were studied for both unburnished samples and burnished samples. The results revealed that the roller burnished samples of A356/ 5%SIC led to the improvement in tensile strength, hardness and ductility. In order to find out the effects of roller bur- nishing process parameters on the surface roughness of A356/ 5%SIC metal matrix composite, response surface methodol- ogy （RSM） （Box-Behnken design） was used and a prediction model was developed relevant to average surface roughness using experimental data. In the range of process parameters, the result shows that roller burnishing speed increases, and surface roughness decreases, but on the other hand roller burnishing force and number of passes increase, and surface roughness increases. Optimum values of burnishing speed （1.5 m/s）, burnishing force （50 N） and number of passes （2） during roller burnishing of A356/5%SIC metal matrix com- posite to minimize the surface roughness （predicted 1.232 μm） have been found out. There was only 5.03% error in the experimental and modeled results of surface roughness. 相似文献

Coconut oil has been used by the people of Kerala as a cooking medium for several decades. Due to its alleged hypercholesterolemic activity, general population in recent times is shifting to cooking oils rich in polyunsaturated fats, the most popular being sunflower oil. The effect of long-term consumption of sunflower oil on oxidative stress in humans is not well investigated. We studied oxidative stress among coronary artery disease (CAD) patients who were consuming coconut oil or sunflower oil as a part of their routine diet. Men, aged 35–70 years, with established CAD, who presented to the hospital for routine cardiac evaluations, were enrolled in this observational study. Group 1 and 2 consisted of 73 and 80 subjects consuming coconut oil and sunflower oil respectively for over a period of 2 years. Lipid profile and parameters for oxidative stress were evaluated among them. Conventional lipid parameters did not differ significantly between the two groups. Mean vitamin C concentration was significantly reduced for subjects on sunflower oil compared to those consuming coconut oil (P = 0.044). Malondialdehyde was higher for sunflower oil consumers compared to coconut oil consumers (P < 0.0001). Other parameters such as oxidized LDL, GSH, GPx and SOD were not found to be significantly different between the two groups. The results of the present study show that coconut oil did not induce hypercholesterolemia compared to sunflower oil. On the other hand, sunflower oil group had elevated oxidative stress compared to coconut oil group. 相似文献

Free iron in serum has been found in several disease conditions including diabetes. In the present work, we studied the relationship
between free iron, fasting blood glucose (FBG) and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c). Study was carried out on 50 type 2 diabetes cases under poor glycemic control associated with complications, 53 type 2
diabetes cases under good glycemic control and 40 healthy controls. We estimated free iron, both ferrous (Fe+2) and ferric (Fe+3) form, protein thiols, lipid hydroperoxides, FBG, HbA1c and serum ferritin levels in serum. There was a significant increase
in free iron in Fe+3 state (p <0.01), HbA1c (p<0.01), serum ferritin (p<0.01), lipid hydroperoxides (p<0.01) and significant decrease in protein thiols (<0.01) in diabetes
cases under poor glycemic control compared to diabetes cases under good glycemic control and healthy controls. Free iron correlated
positively with HbA1c (p<0.01). Poor glycemic control and increase in glycation of haemoglobin is contributing to the increase in free iron pool
which is known to increase oxidant generation. 相似文献
