The purpose of the present study was to examine the role of perfectionism in the second/foreign language (L2) learning context. To this end, we investigated the possible links between perfectionism, emotions, achievement goals, and L2 achievement. A total number of 2008 secondary school students completed the relevant questionnaires. First, confirmatory factor analysis was performed to assure the construct validity of the questionnaires. Then, separate structural equation models were conducted to examine the relations among variables. Results indicated that adaptive perfectionism was directly related to positive emotions, while the opposite pattern was found for maladaptive perfectionism. Moreover, only adaptive perfectionism was related to mastery goals, and both adaptive and maladaptive perfectionisms were related to performance-approach goals and performance-avoidance goals. Maladaptive perfectionism dimensions were negatively related to L2 achievement, while one dimension of adaptive perfectionism had positive relation and another one had negative relation with L2 achievement. Finally, mediation analysis was performed and results showed that only negative emotions and only mastery goals could mediate the relation between perfectionism dimensions and L2 achievement.  相似文献

Abstract

Eighty African American college students completed the College Student Reasons for Living Inventory (CSRLI) and reported on their self-perceived level of suicidal risk. Results indicate that the CSRLI holds promise for predicting suicidal risk among African American college students. These data are contrasted with a pre-existing Caucasian study of college students, and the implications are discussed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Initial research suggests that parental perfectionism is central to the development of athlete perfectionism. However, it is unclear whether perceived or actual parental perfectionism is most important. The present study aimed to address this issue in two ways. First, we re-examined the predictive ability of actual versus perceived parental perfectionism on athlete perfectionism. Second, for the first time, we tested whether perceived parental perfectionism mediated the relationship between actual parental perfectionism and athlete perfectionism. A sample of 150 junior athletes and their parents completed measures of perfectionism (perfectionistic strivings and perfectionistic concerns). Junior athletes completed two measures, one of their own perfectionism and one of perceptions of their parents’ perfectionism. Parents completed one measure of their own perfectionism. Regression analyses showed that perceived parental perfectionism predicted athlete perfectionism over and above actual parental perfectionism. Mediation analyses provided support for our proposed model. Overall, the findings suggest that both actual and perceived parental perfectionism are important in the development of perfectionism in junior athletes.  相似文献

The academic problems of many college students are caused by academic deficits rather than, or in addition to, unconscious conflicts. For these students the college psychotherapist needs to supplement traditional psychotherapeutic approaches with alternative, somewhat unconventional methods that directly address the academic program. This paper describes and illustrates four such methods: giving advice, regulating studies, offering academic help, and making recommendations to faculty or administrators. The implications of these methods for the process of psychotherapy are also considered.  相似文献

This study investigated the relationships among perfectionism, communication apprehension (CA), and temperament. Perfectionism is a multidimensional construct that includes an adaptive factor (i.e., having high standards for oneself) and a maladaptive factor (i.e., being unable to feel accomplishment in reaching excessively high standards; Flett & Hewitt, 2002 Flett , G. L. , & Hewitt , P. L. ( 2002 ). Perfectionism and maladjustment: An overview of theoretical, definitional, and treatment issues . In G. L. Flett , & P. L. Results revealed a negative relationship between adaptive perfectionism and CA, and a positive relationship between maladaptive perfectionism and CA. Furthermore, adaptive perfectionism was found to be positively related to extraversion and negatively related to neuroticism and psychoticism, whereas maladaptive perfectionism was found to be positively related to neuroticism and negatively related to extraversion.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study examined multidimensional perfectionism and self-development. Two hundred seventy-one undergraduates completed a measure of multidimensional perfectionism and two Kohutian measures designed to measure aspects of self-development including social connectedness, social assurance, goal instability (idealization), and grandiosity. The researchers found evidence that adaptive perfectionists employ healthier forms of narcissism in social connectedness and goal instability (idealization) as compared to maladaptive perfectionists and nonperfectionists. Implications for treatment and future research are discussed.  相似文献

This study examined the effectiveness of an integrated training programme (ITP) in reducing female students’ test anxiety with a view to the mothers’ perfectionism as a moderating factor. A total of 60 primary school students (30 mothers with perfectionism trait and 30 mothers without perfectionism) were randomly selected using multi-stage cluster sampling and screening methods. Spielberger’s Test Anxiety Scale and Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS) were administered to the students and mothers, respectively. The participants were placed into four groups (two experimental and two control groups). The experimental groups received intervention in 14 sessions. The results suggested significant differences between experimental and control groups, but there was no significant difference between the two experimental groups (group 1: students with test anxiety and perfectionist mothers and group 2: students with test anxiety and non-perfectionist mothers). The moderating effect of mothers’ perfectionism was not statistically confirmed. Implications of the study are discussed.  相似文献

以496名中国不同项目运动员为测试对象,对多维运动完美主义量表进行信效度检验.结果显示,探索性因素分表明,各条目在所属因子的因子负荷为0.561~0.860之间,4个因子可解释总变异的62.86%;验证性因素分析显示,拟合指数为:x2/df=2.693、GFI=0.932、CFI=0.894、RM-SEA=0.043,IFI=0.907、NNFI=0.903.量表的内部一致性信度和重测信度比较理想:4个分量表的内部一致性系数分别为0.738、0.772、0.736和0.762.间隔时间5周的重测信度为0.769.效标关联效度检验表明,多维运动完美主义与自我定向、个体失败焦虑、躯体焦虑以及社会期待焦虑等负性情绪有显著性低正相关,而与任务定向和自信有显著性负相关.量表的信度和效度符合心理测量学要求,可以用于中国运动员的运动完美主义研究.  相似文献
