Although information technology has made locating and organizing information faster and easier in many ways, it also constitutes a source of stress for both public services librarians and patrons. This study identifies a number of sources of technological stress, which include everything from poor typing skills to poor interface design. It also proposes several ways to reduce technological stress, such as implementing a system gradually, communicating with staff about what to expect, providing adequate training for librarians, creating proper documentation, choosing ergonomically sound hardware and software, selecting a well designed interface, and involving staff and patrons in system design. 相似文献

The amount of content, both on and offline, to which people in reasonably affluent nations have access has increased to the
point that it has raised concerns that we are now suffering from a harmful condition of ‹information overload.’ Although the
phrase is being used more frequently, the concept is not yet well understood – beyond expressing the rather basic idea of
having access to more information than is good for us. This essay attempts to provide a philosophical explication of the concept
of information overload and is therefore what philosophers call ‹conceptual analysis’ – a task that, along with normative
ethical analysis, is distinctive to Anglo-American style analytic philosophy. I will begin with an analysis of the atomic
concepts expressed by the terms ‹information’ and ‹overload’ and then attempt to give a philosophical explanation of the concept

Summary One of the greatest challenges in delivering reference services to adult learners is technostress. This is a common syndrome among adults generally characterized by feelings of discomfort and unease around computers. Adult learners are particularly vulnerable to technostress because they grew up in a largely pre-computer era. Reference librarians can help alleviate technostress through several means. These include establishing a relaxed, psychologically supportive atmosphere, pacing one's instruction, and using active learning. In attempting to relieve technostress, it is important for librarians to remember that it is not only what is conveyed, but how it is conveyed that is critical. 相似文献

[目的/意义]在图书馆技术发展史上,图书馆员受到技术采纳本身的压力和应对技术革新后服务环境变化的间接压力,图书馆员工作满意度和组织绩效均因此受到一定影响。梳理图书馆技术发展中各个阶段的技术压力的特点、原因和解决对策非常必要。[方法/过程]对国内外文献中有关图书馆技术压力的研究进行初步综述,探究图书馆员技术压力随着技术变革的变化和解决对策。[结果/结论]技术应该成为图书馆发展的工具,而非解决图书馆所有问题的法宝。妥善处理馆员的技术压力问题,用好新技术,将有助于改变用户对图书馆的印象,改善图书馆的形象,提升图书馆的竞争力。 相似文献
