| Abstract: | This paper makes a comparison of appreciating the ugliness between Zhuangzi and Victor-Marie Hugo from the background of the possible existence of ugliness,the relationship between beauty and ugliness,and its metaphysical basis.Zhuangzi's appreciation of ugliness accomplished the naive and natural beauty of Chinese art,and Hugo's appreciation of ugliness pointed out the aesthetic value to depict the ugly things.They both have a far-reaching influence upon later generations. |
