| Abstract: | Computer supported cooperative work as a new multi disciplinary research area, brings a lot of new challenges for the computer technologies. Having analyzed the CSCW applications by using the groupware space time matrix, we conclude that the communications services required by CSCW have two major characteristics: multimedia communication and multiparty communication. The traditional communication services can not meet these requirements. A high performance network communications platform for the CSCW applications should be established upon the new lightweight transport protocol and high speed multiservice networks. Some important issues in this platform have been discussed. In this paper, we also explain the importance of the open CSCW environment and propose an open CSCW system layered architecture. |
