| 摘 要： | 美国的通识教育非常重视人丈学科的重要性。纽曼认为，大学教育作为一种通识教育的最为重要的组成部分就是要培养学生的博雅知识，强调此类知识的学习，就是要为学生提供一种“自由教育”，教学生学习以古典语言和文学以及古代历史和哲学为主要内容的“博雅知识”。通过通识教育的学习，学校，必须把课堂学习与社区服务紧密地结合起来，比如提供关于贫困问题的背景知识，或在保健、安居和福利政策的课程中结合社区服务的内容。

| Abstract: | The general education in American universities attaches great importance to humanities. Newman holds that university education is a kind of general education, the most important part of which is to cultivate students＇ liberal knowledge, and that to emphasize the study of such knowledge is to provide students with liberal education so that they can study such liberal knowledge as ancient language, literature, ancient history and philosophy. General education requires that universities should closely combine classroom learning with community service, providing the students with background information about poverty or contents of community service in the courses on health care, housing and welfare policies. |
