Multicultural Approach for Curriculum Development in the Library and Information Sciences
Abstract:A major obstacle to attracting students from cultural/ ethnic/linguistic minorities is the professional stereotype. Removing this is a first step in increasing minority representation in the profession. A second step would require that schools of library/information science identify people-oriented individuals and actively recruit them. With these preliminary steps and minor adjustments to the current curriculum, library/information science education can make strides in diversity.
Keywords:Perception of library/information services  pre-requisites for the library/information science curriculum  recruiting among minority populations
