Teacher Education and IT: a national perspective |

| Abstract: | In this short paper the desired components of teacher competence in Information Technology (IT) are identified and set against the current situation amongst teachers in the United Kingdom. Strategies to ‘bridge the gap’ between the two are outlined, and some current projects by the National Council for Educational Technology designed to address this training need are discussed. |
