| 摘 要： | 本文对世纪之交出现的数字图书馆的历史地位进行了尝试性分析。数字图书馆的技术基础是计算机，数字文献的出现是文献介质继纸的发明后出现的又一次革命，而网络化使文献传递在形态、方式、范围上都有了质的突破，文章最后从发挥图书馆“保存”和“传播”文献的职能出发对数字技术解决当前图书馆存在的问题谈了一些看法。

| Abstract: | This paper examines the historical role of the digital library.It argues that the digital library is underpinned by computer technologies and represents a new phase of the application of computers to library management,the primary featurd of this new phase being networked information delivery.Like the invention of paper,the emergence of digital documents is a new revolution in communication,but is yet to compete with the former's social impact.The network has transformed the mode,means and scope of document delivery.This paper concludes by discussing library's preservation and dissemination functions using digital techmologies. |
