摘    要:隐喻和转喻是词义延伸的两种主要方式。以英汉face为语料,从认知隐喻和转喻的思维角度分析一词多义现象。研究发现:两词在认知上均以隐喻为主,转喻为辅;英汉语所显示的这种类似性典型地反映了人类认知的选择倾向性;而它们之间存在的差异则印证了人类认知基本根植于身体经验,但也受制于文化模式。

Abstract:Metonymy and Metaphor are two major types of word meaning extension. This article is about the research on polysemy based on cognitive metonymy and metaphor by analysis of Face both in English and in Chinese.
