中国近代教育与国民性研究的缘起、发展与启示

摘    要:对早期文献进行分析发现,国民性与民族性存在一定程度的混用,而与社会性、人性相区分。近代教育与国民性研究的缘起主要受到教育与国民性的传统联系、内忧外患的夹击以及他国的影响等因素的推动。早期文献主要是从本国单一比较、多国比较以及他者立场三种角度对中国国民性特征展开讨论,并提出用教育改造国民性的具体措施。主要启示有:国民性是事实也是臆想;改造国民性不等于改造人性;教育对国民性改造作用是有限度的。

Abstract:Through analyzing the early literature, we have discovered that national character is misused with nationality to some extent, but distinguished from sociality and human nature. Research on modern education and national character resulted from mainly the traditional link between education and national character, the combination of domestic trouble and foreign invasion, and the influence of other countries. The early literature mainly discusses the characteristics of Chinese national character through single comparison,multinational comparison, and the standpoint of other countries, and proposed concrete measures on how to transform national character by education. The main implications are: national character is both a fact and a fantasy; transforming national character is not equal to transforming human nature; education is limited in transforming national character.
