| Abstract: | Since Brown and Gilman pioneered the concepts of power and solidarity in 1960 and because of people’s continued research in them,the two terms have been fundamental to sociolinguistic theory.What are the pragmatic functions of them? In order to answer the question,an analysis of power and solidarity is conducted in view of deictic terms,address terms,verb patterns,code-switching and style variation and it tries to probe into the pragmatic functions of power and solidarity on the basis of Jakobson’s theory of language functions. |
