| Abstract: | This paper is an attempt to analyze the application of irony,one of the most important artistic devices in Eliot’s poem"The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock",with the approach of New Criticism.By using irony in the title,form,and the text,the poet better demonstrates the theme and reveals the characteristics of the protagonist and the society in this poem.The exploration of this device can help readers get a much clearer understanding of the whole poem and appreciate the language artistry of the modernistic poem. |
