| 摘 要： | “爱国”、“启蒙”和“文艺复兴”是经常用来标识五四运动的性质及特点的重要概念。对“五四”的上述定性进行历史解读,并认识其影响,会发现:五四运动期间,已经有人称之为“爱国运动”了,这个称谓是“五四”的最有实际意义的遗产,影响至今;五四运动时期,尚无人称之为启蒙运动,它是后来才出现的,是以“古为今用”的方式,用来应对现实问题的产物;五四运动被誉为“中国的文艺复兴”也是运动期间的事,并很快在西方广为人知,可在史实和逻辑上均面临着一定困难。对五四运动的上述定性进行历史解读,展现九十年来国人对五四运动的认识和评价的发展变迁,有助于加深理解五四运动,也有助于加深理解近百年来的中国思想史。

| Abstract: | This paper carries out a re-examination of the three characteristics given to the May Fourth Movement, including "patriotism", "enlightenment", and "renaissance". It argues that "patriotism" should be the most pragmatistic heritage while "enlightenment" has not been conceived to be so by those who experienced the event: the term has been adopted by those in the ensuing generations merely to solve realistic problems. And "renaissance", as known throughout the western history, is problematic against both historical and logical facts. So the present paper offers an historical interpretation of some important concepts widely used in the ideological and academic circles, and displays the understandings and evaluations since 1990s, which would promote further comprehension of the Movement and the ideology history of the near-hundred Chinese history. |
