| Abstract: | The House of Seven Gables is a long novel with the wide use of symbolism. In the novel, the setting like house and garden have all been symbolized. In addition, the characters whether protagonists or antagonists have been depicted in rich symbolic meanings. The employment of symbolism has facilitated the novel a deeper theme, and more thrilling plots. This paper is to make a tentative exploration of the successful use of symbolism in the novel. |
