| Abstract: | The 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded jointly to Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas Steitz and Ada Yonath “for studies on the structure and function of the ribosome”. The ribosome is a massive molecular machine comprising proteins and RNA and is responsible for the synthesis of proteins, often termed the workhorses of the cell. Proteins are key players in almost all intracellular transactions and hence the importance of the ribosome. |
