| 摘 要： | 英语委婉语是语言交际中的一种较为普遍的现象，也是人类文明发展的产物。对委婉语的了解，可以减少语言交际中的困惑或尴尬。而且，通过使用更文雅或适当的英语委婉语，可以改善和协调人际关系。本文旨在用具体实例论述交际中的英语委婉语的起源、发展、构成、分类及其语用功能，帮助读者更加了解委婉语的作用和用法，达到更好的交流。

| Abstract: | Euphemism is a product of human civilization and a comparatively prevalent phenomenon, which extensively exists in the English language. A good command of euphemism helps to reduce puzzles and embarrassments in the language communication. Likewise, interpersonal relationships can be coordinated and enhanced surprisingly in the way of employing graceful words instead of disagreeable or disgusting ones. This paper attempts to review the origin, development, classification, formation and pragmatic functions of English euphemism with concrete examples, therefore to help readers understand more about it and communicate better. |
