| Abstract: | Directors of the Fifth Generation have set up with th eir own practices an important milestone for the development of Chinese movies. In turning over a new leaf in the history of movies, they also shoulder the hist orical mission of carrying on the past and opening up the future. Owing to the u nusually fierce competition on today's movie market, economic efficiency is lift ed to an extremely important position, and directors of the Fifth Generation hav e begun to probe into and meditate upon both their pursuit of individuality and the box office. |
