| 摘 要： | 寻找自我定义与在美国社会中的个体认同是描写第二代亚裔美国人的文学作品中的一个中心主题。谭恩美的《喜福会》传承了亚裔美国文学先驱们所开创的这一传统,尝试了将亚洲的文化遗产和美式的期望合为一体,小说描写了四段母女关系,他们所要要承受和跨越的,除了代沟,还有日渐式微的古老中国文化和势不可挡的当代美国文化之间的巨大鸿沟。《喜福会》不但表现了在中国人移民美国的历史中的个人悲剧,同时也表现了一种文化在经历变迁时的艰难。《喜福会》本质上并非是一部关于分化的小说,它所写的是女儿和母亲之间的和解,也是对亚裔美国人挣扎着实现中国背景和美国自我之间的妥协的纪实。
