| Abstract: | The English Patient is one of the masterworks of Michael Ondaatje. Focusing on the symbolic meaning of the title, structure, water and fire in this story, this paper tries to analyze the author＇s intention and emotion of writing this story. Through these symbols, Ondaatje weaves his perplexity in his writing and throws out a hint of the difficult harmony in multiculturalism. |
