| Abstract: | The beginning part of Hawthorne's The Minister's Black Veil is analysed by using functional stylistics.This novel is well-knit and skilfully conceived,without sticking to truth of details.Moreover,underneath mildness,the style of writing is trenchant.Such a functional stylistic approach leads to the conclusion that functional stylistics can provide objective criterion for the stylistic analysis of the text. |
