| 摘 要： | 委婉语是一种最为普遍的社会现象与语言习惯，它不仅是一种语言学的学问，还附带一定的社会性。日常生活中对委婉语的使用，不但能够恰如其分的体现出我们语言的文明与委婉，帮助我们协调人际关系，还能够反应出一个社会的道德观与价值观。而在文学作品中使用委婉语的效果就更不必说了。本文主要探讨了文学作品中英语委婉语的作用和特征，及其在文学作品中的应用，以帮助读者提高文学作品的鉴赏能力。

| Abstract: | The euphemism is the most common social phenomenon and language habits. It is not only a linguistic knowledge, but also with a certain sociality. Everyday use of euphemism, appropriately reflects the language of our civilization and euphemism, helps us coordinate relationships and also reflects the morals and social values. Not to mention the use of euphemism in literature. Euphemism application on the literature works as well as the role and characteristics of English euphemism is discussed in this paper so as to help readers understand better. |
