| Abstract: | This paper deals with nominal uses of English prepositional phrases (PPs), that is,PPs can grammatically function as subjects and objects (objects of prepositions included)in simple sentences.The emphasis of discussion will be laid on in what circumstances PPs may take on the nominal function and on what semantic features such types of sentences possess,analyzed with the help of the transitivity concept from Functional Grammar. |
