| Abstract: | Xu Run as a comprador in a specific time acted a tragic role in the financial unrest of 1883. He speculated on real estate by means of loan, but unfortunately he was involved in back seizure of accounts of chained private banks and stock speculation. Eventually he went bankrupt and was exempted, which led to the 1883 financial unrest of Shanghai. |
