| Abstract: | ??The theory of information industry in China is formed and developed on the basis of absorbing and learning from the western information economics.The theories by F. Machlup, M. U. Porat, J. Marschak, G. J. Stigler and K. J. Arrow, etc. not only greatly influence information science circles in China but also propel information industry in China forward. However, Chinese researchers should form their own theory system according to the national conditions in order to guide the practice of industrial development.The structural frame of information industry in China is described as follows: the basis is the information manufacture industry, the guide is the information technology industry, the main body of the information service industry is state-run organizations and information branches in non-information industry are main com ponents. The structural frame not noly accords with industry policy and statistics array in China but also organizes internal andexternal relations.Chinese government has decided to quicken the development of the tertiary industry and regarded information industry as the developing focal point. Therefore, towards 21 century, information industry in China should participate in international competition and in about 20 years from now on, form modernized system of information industry. The output value of information industry will be 90 billion yuan, the number of employment will be 15% or so and the index of informatisation of the society will be equal to that of Hong Kong. |
