| Abstract: | Thematic structure is an important component of textual function in Functional Grammar. This paper aims to discuss how the theme theory functions to text coherence and stylistic effects in English writing,by describing the theory of theme and rheme,and the patterns of thematic progression. The paper also elucidates some practical implications for English writing teaching. |
