Organizing Effective Faculty Participation in Collection Development |
| |
Abstract: | This paper presents two basic arguments: 1) the political realities of academia suggest that faculty must be an integral part of the library collection development; and 2) for this participation to be effective, it should be organized and controlled by library staff. The latter should develop a stepwise plan that calls for faculty participation in collection evaluation, standardization of departmental request procedures, and the training of faculty representatives in the selection of current and retrospective materials. |
