Serving Secondary Users:
Abstract:In the past, undergraduate libraries have tried to provide unlimited services to secondary users. Increased technological change, severe budget cuts, and lack of human resources are forcing libraries to examine their mission and audience and to determine what level of service they can offer unaffiliated users. The authors look at the reasons for the public's increased use of academic libraries, discuss how academic libraries are responding to such demands, and suggest strategies for implementing new service and access policies successfully.
Keywords:Access to libraries  unaffiliated users  unconditional services  cutbacks  service policies
