Abstract:Adaptive whitening filters have been proven to be powerful to eliminate narrow band interference in spread spectrum (SS) communication systems. However digital implementation of such kind adaptive filters is difficult for applications with chip rate as high as tens of megahertz. By treating the adaptive filtering as a standard least squares problem, this paper considers to utilize recurrent neural networks to rejection of narrow band interference in SS communications. This paper shows via analytical results and computer simulations that the desired adaptive filtering can be accomplished in hundreds of nanoseconds for each batch processing, provided that the recurrent neural network is implemented using analog circuits. This makes the present approach well suited for SS communication systems with extremely high chip rate. Practical implementation of the neural network based adaptive filters is fully addressed. Detailed computer simulations are also provided to illustrate the performance advantage of the present approach.
