摘    要:郭嵩焘作为中国首任驻英大使,在西方国度上亲身感受铁路的便利迅捷,火车带来的国强民富,积极接受西方人士的游说与建议,竭力要求朝廷开拓中国运输新事业,坚决反对沈葆桢拆毁吴松铁路。他依据中国国贫民穷的现状,主张循序渐进兴修铁路,抨击清流派欲借洋款大兴铁路,系统地阐述了自己的铁路观。郭嵩焘顺应世界潮流,热情宣传和鼓动中国兴办铁路,履行了一个先驱者的职责。

Abstract:As the first ambassador in Britain,Guo Songtao experienced by himself the convenient railway service and the richness it brought to the western countries. He accepted the suggestions of western people, urged the Qing Dynasty to create Chinese transport cause and objected to Shen Baozhen s tearing down of Wu Song Railway. Guo suggested that we should build railway in an orderly and gradual way. He denounced to do it by borrowing from foreign banks, and elaborated his own railroad concept systematically. Guo Songtao conformed to the trend of the world, agitated for and aroused China s railway building,and performed a pioneer s obligations.
