| 摘 要： | 李佳白是活跃在清末民初中国社会舞台上的著名传教士。他与袁世凯相识于维新时期,视袁为维新人士,格外推崇袁世凯在新政中的政绩。袁世凯积极拉拢传教士,向外界昭示清政府的对外政策,以获取列强的支持。李佳白则极力支持袁世凯担任临时大总统,并为其专制行为和复辟帝制辩护。李佳白与袁世凯的关系折射出庚子事变后中外关系的变化,也反映了传教士对袁世凯和辛亥革命的态度。

| Abstract: | Gilbert Reid was a renowned and active missionary in Chinese soiciety stage during the Late Qing and Early Republic.He was acquainted with Yuan Shikai in the reform time,regarded him as a reformer,especially admired his achievements in new deal.Yuan Shikai positively wined over the missionary,and made clear to abroad Qing government's foreign policy so that gained support from the powers.Then,Gilbert Reid vigorously supported Yuan Shikai to hold the post of temporary president,and pleaded for his despotic behavior and restoring monarchy.The relation between Gilbert Reid and Yuan Shikai refracts the change of Chinese and foreign relationship,and reflectes Missionary's attitute to Yuan Shikai and 1911 Revolution. |
