| 摘 要： | 由李鸿章作序、赫德编辑,艾约瑟翻译的《西学启蒙十六种》,封面标明的出版时间是光绪丙戌仲冬——即1886年冬。此套丛书中的《希腊志略》一书的第二卷俄伦比亚会一节,用507个字的文言详细介绍了以呼吁停战、崇尚健康、营造民众节日气氛为主旨的古代奥运会的盛况,这是对古代奥运会最早的中文描述。此书是目前发现的中国最早介绍古代奥运会的书籍,并成为中国奥林匹克历史文献的源头。
