| 摘 要： | 约翰·福尔斯是英国当代文坛上最重要的小说家之一,其代表作《法国中尉的女人》一问世,就获得了广大读者和文学评论界的好评,被誉为后现代小说永恒的经典。围绕着作者对作品中女主人公萨拉这一形象的精心塑造,不少评论家从不同的角度进行了探讨。本文运用女性主义文学批评理论对小说文本进行具体分析,认为女主人公萨拉这一人物形象是对维多利亚时代传统女性形象的彻底颠覆,在萨拉反叛传统、自我放逐的背后,是其自我意识的不断增强和对男女平等、精神自由的不渝追求。

| Abstract: | John Fowles is an important and influential novelist in contemporary Britain and his masterpiece The French Lieutenant's Woman upon its publication has been acclaimed by critics.This thesis tends to analyze the heroine Sarah in the perspective of feminism criticism,by focusing on her rebellion and subversion to the traditional women imagery in Victorian Age,and to explore the constantly enhancement of Sarah's female consciousness and her everlasting pursuit of equality and freedom. |
