| Abstract: | The present paper reviews the controversy about literal translation and free translation in the history of Chinese translation It is pointed out that the combination of the literal translation and agree translation is an inevitable and necessary tendency. Moreover, the paper puts forward three basic characteristics of modern translation: national nature, characteristics of times and popularity. |
