| 摘 要： | 关于敦煌佛爷庙湾西晋画像砖墓中的白象画像砖,笔者曾提出其带有佛教文化色彩。郑岩先生以商周、汉代常见象这一艺术题材为据,认为象是传统题材。笔者从解析不同时期所谓传统题材的不同文化内涵入手,认为白象并不属于传统题材。同时其时史籍中白象的阙如及在佛典中的重要地位,表明白象这一艺术题材的文化渊源具有唯一性,因而白象只能源自佛典,其所承载的佛教文化信息是毋庸置疑的。
