Abstract:This study looks at cross-cultural mentoring relationships among a group of librarians from the United States to explore the programmatic and interpersonal factors associated with positive mentoring experiences. Through a survey and follow-up conversations with several respondents, the authors were able to identify common themes that mentors and mentees described as important in their relationships, particularly when the mentoring partners did not share the same racial or ethnic identities. The authors conclude with recommendations for mentoring program design and participation that reflect more inclusive practices.
