| Abstract: | This paper proposes a way to program the online catalog to retrieve and display together related serial records, by using the current accepted practice of successive entry cataloging and those MARC bibliographic fields unique to a successive entry record. The underlying theme to the discussion is that the cataloging record alone need not always bear the burden of explaining itself to the user; in fact, the online catalog with its menu options and displays can and should provide a useful structure within itself, a structure essential to the effective use of any library catalog. |
